A South Carolina humane society is helping a dog recover after someone abandoned it in the heat of the day in a closed plastic container outside the shelter.
The Pickens County Humane Society, at 500 5 Forks Rd., in Liberty, posted about the incident on the group's Facebook page, saying it happened during business hours when staff was inside the building.

"Abandonment is illegal," the post reads. "It's a shame that this poor pup who is covered in fleas (and) sores, super skinny (and) hungry was left in a CLOSED container, with no air, OUTSIDE our facilities."
Temperatures on Tuesday reached the high 90s.
Staff at the shelter named the mixed-breed dog "Clover" and said he was "settling in (and) receiving the love (and) care he needs until his FUR-EVER family is found."
Calls to the shelter about the current condition and status of the dog were not immediately answered.
Anyone interested in helping Clover or donating to the Pickens County Humane Society can do so through the shelter's website.
